Welcome to 1B's class page!
With Miss Brown and Mrs Gould
You will find lots of lovely information here on the activities and learning that we have been doing in class. Our 'Learning Together" sheet will be sent home at the end of each week with details on what we have been doing in our writing and maths lessons.
Things to bring to school
*A pair of wellington boots*
*Bookbag (every day)*
*A water bottle (every day)*
*P.E. kit (P.E. will be on a Monday)*
Please ensure that all items are labelled
We will listen to your child read weekly on either a Monday or Tuesday. Bookbags will be kept in school on a Monday, to be returned on a Tuesday. Children are reminded to please bring their reading books in every day and to bring Library books in on a Wednesday.
Reading books will be changed when your child has finished reading their book, they have a good understanding of what has happened in it and they have been asked questions about what they have read.
This spring in Literacy we will be immersing ourselves in the world of Traditional Tales and stories from a range of cultures. We will read and discuss many of these centuries’ old stories looking at their features and letting our imaginations run wild as we write our own. Reading and talking about these stories together at home can be an enjoyable way to encourage new vocabulary and familiarise children with the many different tales out there.
Poetry will also feature this term as we look at rhythm and rhyme in books and poems . We will then be writing our own as well as playing plenty of sound and spelling games in-between. Books such as the "Gruffalo" and the "Room on the Broom" series show the patterns of words used to create rhyme as well as tell a story. Have some fun reading these and maybe creating your own rhymes and poems together.
This term we will look at multiplication, division and fractions. We will practice and improve our mathematical vocabulary and the methods used for each operation, using physical apparatus as much as possible. Morning maths warm-ups and a maths working wall keeps our number work sharp!
The first half hour of the day will see us focusing on phonics and building on the phonetic knowledge that the children developed during their time in Reception. This will be done through group learning as well as fun games and practical activities which will support our class by providing strategies for spelling and being able to decode new words.
Geography and History will be covered in our topic work where we will look at the United Kingdom, our local area and maps, as well as learning about the first man on the moon Neil Armstrong. We are lucky enough that with today's technology we are able to watch the footage of this amazing event together.
During our Art and DT lessons, we will look at the artist Vincent Van Gogh, creating art in his style as well as sketching and painting from life. We will go around the world and look at China, France and Italy; even trying some Italian cuisine. Delizioso!
RE will see us learning about prayer before moving on to lent and the celebration of Easter.
We will be learning about animals and looking at classification in Science lessons this term, as well as continuing to look at how to work scientifically.
In computing we will continue looking the ways in which we can stay safe online (Very important!) and ensure that we all understand e-safety. We will use the internet to look for images and create e-books.
In PSHE we will be looking at environments around us, health and safety and healthy eating. This is important to help us grow and for our bodies to stay strong.
Working with our fantastic sports coaches, the children will take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities alongside learning about movement and dance within P.E.
We will continue with our wonderful French lessons where the children have great fun singing songs and learning new vocabulary.
In Music the children will learn a variety of songs in preparation for our Class Assembly and we will look at musical instruments.
We will be seeing the fabulous Chinese Dragons in celebration of Chinese New Year as well as a live-action performance of Sleeping Beauty.
