This is an overview of some of the exciting work Year 2 children will be enjoying in our first term.
This term the focus is on three areas:
Children will continue with their reading books and we will send spellings home on a Monday for your children to practice. Comprehension and reading homework will be sent home each week. It is important to support your child's reading at home, just ten minutes a night can make such a difference. Please speak to the teacher if you have any questions about homework
This term the focus will be:
Each week on our ‘learning together’ sheet we will provide details of the math work undertaken in class and set weekly homework (this may be a worksheet or maths game).
History and Geography
In Geography we will be learning all about our environment.
In History we will be learning all about a famous historical event the 'Great Fire of London'.
In science we will be investigating Plants and animals in the local environment. We will also be learning about healthy eating and how to keep ourselves healthy.
ICT is taught throughout each subject as children use a variety of resources (ipads, computers, cameras, and internet) to find and produce information. This term we focus on writing computer code. We are also leaning about e-safety.
Art & Design Technology
This term we look at drawing using pencils, charcoal and pastels. Children will also design and make Christmas hats and cards
Children will enjoy a range of outdoor and indoor sports activities, with a professional sports coach, alongside movement and dance.
A variety of songs are taught in preparation for our Christmas concert and percussion instruments played.
Throughout the curriculum there is a strong focus on PHSE (Personal Health, Social and Emotional) learning. This term we focus on:
We cover all the main world religions, this term we are looking Christianity, Hinduism, and Judaism.
