Happy New Year to all our Families
This is an overview of some of the exciting work Year 2 children will be enjoying in our Second Term.
This term the focus is on two areas:
Children will be writing at length, describing characters and building plots for their own stories. They will take traditional tales and give them a modern twist. They will have fun performing their own stories in small groups.
There is a great emphasis on children's spelling in year 2 and we thank all parents for your support in the spelling homework sent home each week.
Children will continue to brig home their reading books each week and we are very excited about 'Bug Club' our new on-line reading scheme which will continue to support and develop your child's reading skills at home.It will offer children lot's of lovely books to read while developing their comprehension skills through fun activities. Comprehension homework will continue be sent home each week. It is important to support your child's reading at home, just ten minutes a night can make such a difference. Please speak to the teacher if you have any questions about homework
This term the focus will be:
Each week on our ‘learning together’ sheet we will provide details of the math work undertaken in class and set weekly homework using 'My Maths'. 'My Maths' is an on line Maths scheme that is also used by Gilmour Juniors. Each week we set homework related to what has been taught. Your child can access 'My Maths' on any phone,tablet, laptop or PC. If you are not sure how to log on please speak to the class teacher who will be happy to help.
History and Geography
In Geography children will be learning all about the Continents & Oceans of the world. They will learn to locate and name the Continents and Oceans on a globe and world map. They will also investigate the natural areas of the rainforest.
In History children will be learning all about 'Toys'. We will use a timeline to record how they have changed since Victorian times.
This term we are investigating Variation in plants,animals and humans. We will look at physical features and changes of young and old animals and humans.
ICT is taught throughout each subject as children use a variety of resources (ipads, computers, cameras, and internet) to find and produce information. This term Children are learning about how to present our work using programmes like 'Power Point'. We are also reminding children about the importance of e-safety.
Art & Design Technology
Last term as part of our Design and Technology project every child designed and made a fantastic bird. Carrying on with an animal theme, this term we will be looking at African Art and producing our own artwork in that style.
Children will enjoy a range of outdoor and indoor sports activities, with a professional sports coach, alongside movement and dance.
A variety of songs are taught in preparation for class assembly. In class, music will include playing percussion instruments and composition.
Throughout the curriculum there is a strong focus on PHSE (Personal Health, Social and Emotional) learning. This term we focus on:
We cover all the main world religions, this term we are looking Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam. The children will be learning about the Special books used by each faith.
